Hi, I’m Dara

A young, passionate writer and a self-expression activist.

I believe words can heal, connect, and spark change. I founded 'The Dara Journal' to create a space where thoughts can breathe, bleed, and be beautifully messy.

I don't just write for fun, I write to feel, to fight overthinking, and to remind others and myself that it's okay to not have it all figured out. This journal is my way of turning the noise in my head to something meaningful.

Pull up a chair, grab a pen and let us all scribble our way to clarity and an era of self-expression.

Meet the Team.

Meet our dedicated team who work endlessly to make 'The Dara Journal' a reality.

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

Chimamanda is a Nigerian novelist, essayist, and feminist icon, known for using storytelling to explore race, grief, mental health, and self-discovery. She blends personal truth with global relevance. Her work gives us permission to speak boldly, to feel deeply, and to question loudly. She teaches us that silence can be beautiful, but voice is power.

Quote

Emotional Expression

She doesn't just cry on the page. She thinks, remembers, questions, and opens wounds with precision. She doesn't just express emotion- she dissects it, giving it context and history. Her writing teaches us that emotions aren't weaknesses, they are stories waiting to be told fully and honestly.

Notes on Grief

Featured Work: Notes on Grief

A personal, deeply emotional essay about losing her father and navigating grief across oceans and identities. In "Notes on Grief", Chimamanda is vulnerable, honest, and stripped of the polished mask public figures often wear. It is a perfect example of how writing can be a form of healing, mourning, healing, and connection.

Writing Prompts

1 / Growth and Identity

If you could give your younger self a playlist, what songs would be on it and why?

2 / Overthinking vs. Expression

If your mind was a house, which room would you spend the most time in and which one would you avoid?

3 / "What the Mirror Doesn't Show"

What's something you wish people could see when they look at you?
